Making Your Own Essential Oils

"OILS.......smoils.........what the heck are they for?"

You can use them for EVERYTHING! Use them with visualization and with power. Rub them on your body to bring out the energies within. Rub them on candles to further promote the purpose of your ritual. Use them in your bath to strengthen your powers. Anoint your talismans and charms and amulets with cleansing and protection oils. The only limit is your imagination!

Mixing your own oils is easy.

Into a clean, sterilized jar, pour 1/8 of a cup of any of the following vegetable oils. This is your base oil:  safflower, sunflower, coconut, apricot kernel, almond, hazelnut, grapeseed, jojoba.

(Technical note: Personally,  we have found that jojoba is our favorite choice, because it is really a liquid form of wax and won't become rancid.)

Then simply use an eyedropper (they usually come in the essential oil bottles), add a few drops of essential oils at a time (5-7 is usually a good amount). For best results -don't use synthetic oils.

Put the lid tightly on the jar and swirl the mixture in a clockwise motion - do not stir.Label and keep for future use. Store your oils away from heat - away from light and away from moisture (this DOES include the bathroom)

Making Rose Oil

Rose oil is fairly expensive if you choose to purchase it in a store - but not that tough to make - give it a try!

Method #1

  • Making rose oil yourself is a relatively simple process. If you don't know what rose oil is for then, you probably don't need to make it. It won't hurt if you do though. This is the recipe or formula for the process. Any necessary ritual, you will have to provide since this dissertation is not meant to supplant your path but to add to your scientific knowledge. As like attracts like; soaking leaves and petals in oil will extract the oil of those leaves and petals. * In a clean glass crock, pour in one half cup extra virgin olive oil. * Add to the oil enough freshly picked rose petals to cover the oil. * Let stand 24 hours. * Strain oil through cheese cloth pressing all oil from rose petals. * Discard rose pressed petals. * Add fresh rose petals to this oil and repeat. * Repeat the process until desired strength of scent (various with fragrance of roses used).

Method #2

  • Another option, particularly suited for human consumption, is solvent distillation. In this method an alcohol is used to extract the essential oils from the plant. Leaves and petals (and sometimes thorns) are use for Magikal purposes. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL!!! * In one cup of un-flavored Vodka (or other denatured alcohol) place enough plant matter (petals, leaves, or thorns) to cover the liquid. * Let stand covered tightly for two weeks. * Press the oil from the plant matter through cheesecloth. * The oil and alcohol product you now have is natural rose perfume. * Freeze the liquid you now have for 24 hours. * The oil will freeze, the alcohol will not. Remove the frozen rose oil from your freezer and store in tightly sealed container. * Reserve the remaining alcohol for use again. This is not the easier of the two methods put does deliver a nearly pure essential oil. Remember, one ounce of Rose Oil is a lot of Rose Oil.
